Preschool at Gilmore Place in Burnaby

Royal Roots Early Learning is planned for Gilmore Place, Level 3, in North Burnaby, Burnaby, BC. It is for children up to age 12. Opening is planned for 2027. The centre is not open. Licensing status will be published before opening. Preschool is planned for children ages 3 to 5. On the site this age group is called Growing Roots. It is the Brentwood and North Burnaby preschool offer families have been asking about. The preschool is not open.

Who preschool is planned for

Preschool is planned for children from age 3 through age 5, including children getting ready for kindergarten. Families in North Burnaby, Burnaby Heights, Brentwood, and Capitol Hill are the communities named on the site. The location is Gilmore Place, Level 3, at Gilmore SkyTrain station, so a preschool day can sit on a commute that already uses the SkyTrain.

Royal Roots describes itself as an education centre as well as childcare. For this age that means play, a personalized learning plan, and optional enrichment. It does not mean the preschool is operating, licensed, or charging fees today.

The planned learning approach

Days are planned around play. Art, music, movement, and quiet time are part of the play-based approach already described for the centre. Educators are planned to watch how each child learns and to write a plan that changes as the child grows. Any developmental screening is optional, needs a parent's consent, and is done with qualified partner professionals. It supports the plan. It does not diagnose a child.

Kindergarten readiness is part of the same plan: language, early numeracy, and the confidence to join a group. A fixed preschool timetable has not been published. The daily rhythm will be published before opening, together with hours.

Hands-on play is the base. Technology shows up as optional enrichment, such as early coding and junior STEM, for families who want it. It is not required for preschool care, and it is not a screen-based substitute for the room. Details of those classes sit on the approach page.

Ratios, fees, hours, and licensing

Royal Roots has not published a street number, a phone number, opening hours, a fee schedule, or staff-to-child ratios. Those details will be published before opening.

Licensing status will be published before opening. Child care licensing for this part of British Columbia is administered by Fraser Health. Royal Roots is not publishing a licence number or a licensing stage. When a status is known, it will be written on the licensing page before opening.

Once a program is licensed, staffing has to meet British Columbia's Child Care Licensing Regulation. That regulation is the public source for group size and staff-to-child ratios. Royal Roots will publish the ratios it will use before opening, rather than stating a ratio now.

Fees, including whether a preschool space would be eligible for the Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative or a $10-a-day designation, are not confirmed. The Province of British Columbia describes those programs. Royal Roots will say what applies to this centre before opening. This page does not offer a funded place.

How this connects to the rest of the centre

Children who are younger than 3 are in the planned infant and toddler program. Children who are in school, up to age 12, are in the planned before and after-school program. Preschool is the middle band. A child can be on the waitlist before a start date, and the family is not committed by registering.

Parent circles and workshops are planned as well. They are described on the parents page. They are not the preschool program, and they are not jobs. People looking for work should use the careers page, which is separate from the program list.
